Thats right, nother one bites the dust. Need a zf5 trans for a 1990 450. Working best but core is fine, Washington state Seattle Tocoma area preffered. Thanks

Have you tried a wrecking yard search? I use car-part.com sometimes to search for stuff. Walt and Verns has alot of truck parts in WA too.
Assuming your truck has the diesel, you can use one from a 87 up IDI or even a 7.3 PowerStroke, they all use the same bolt pattern. Make sure you don't get one for a gasser, it won't fit. The 460 pattern "looks" the same, but 2 bolt holes are different.
Check the parts listings over at www.thedieselstop.com and www.oilburners.net
Yes it is a diesel, Looks like theres none to be found at this time. E-bay is only place I have found them. Looks like The wrecker will have to sit and wait for the trans to be rebuilt. Thanks alot.

VERY hard to find! Better to have yours rebuilt anyway. Some aftermarket parts will wear better than that used stock tranny under such hard service.
Actually we were going to have the used one rebuilt so the wrecker can run untill its ready. That way it will only be out of commision while the trans is pulled and the new one put in (couple hours, hubby was a mechanic before) Then the other one can be rebuilt and there will be a spare.

Oh, good idea. That didn't occur to me. I guess I've been spoiled by having spare trucks.
If it's just the synchronisers bad, you can double clutch it to drive until you can find a spare transmission. I know how hard it is to have a truck off the road.
We wish, got stuck in fourth (locked up on an onramp) Got it out of fourth through the shifter hole and now theres no fourth and thirds kinda funny.

Man that sucks. I've never worked on a ZF-5 but I understand that they are very difficult to work on.
My truck has the 4 speed, no overdrive but transmissions are cheap and plentiful. Plus it has a removeable bellhousing so you can use a trans from a gasser no problem.
It looks like the ZF-5 shift tower is removeable, you may have a simpler problem such as a worn bushing or bent fork. I hate to see complete teardowns (which can cause more problems than they fix) if repairs can be made simply.
Post the issue up on the two diesel boards I listed above, someone may have a definite answer as to your problem.
