hello all im new here to the site and im intrested in towing an recovery.
what got me thinking bout this ive been working for an apartment complex for a year now. and we are a gated community each resident has a permit. and a visitor has to get a visitor pass or parkin in visitor parking. so when someone does not fallow thease rules they get towed. like if someone parks in our handicapped spots no questsion asked we tow them. if they do not have a tag from there mirror or there plates are not handicapped. i also have 2 no parking tow away signs infront of my shop. this is a college complex so we have alot of people getting towed.
ive been trying to think of what i can do later on in life. and having my own towing outfit seems to have cought. my eye within the passed year i see there is good money in it. and i like to help people out. and i got alot of respect for you tow truck drivers out there.
now ive got strated in a cheap way the only way i can afford too right now. ive bought a lockout tool called the big easy. and i made me some cards and i make me some money from tiem to time. especialy where i work them college kids lock there keys in there car alot. now thats all ive done so far and i really dont do much of that. i do maybe 2 a month i dont have much advertising as i speek. but i think its a small start and i know it cant grow overnight.
now im getting into this stuff alot and been thinking bout it alot. and i think its what i want to do as a carrer is have my own small operation. some questions i have that are some of my concern may seem silly but id rather ask them then get into some bad trouble.
ive been reading an some other pople do winchouts on here an get some sort of hook up insurance. now not a bad idea im thinking of getting a winch ive got a 2001 chevy Z71. an some times morons like to play in the mud here. but i also see people slide off the road when its wet or slide in the bar ditch. i think i could maybe make some xtra cash here too.
so i read some post with the insurance an stuff i can only run amber lights? im in texas btw abilene texas taylor county
whould this be an ok small start untill later on i can get better equipment. like a tow truck i eventualy want to even try an do repos some day
also another concern of mine is the 2 wheeled tow dollys like u can get at uhal. when u go to move with towers insurance can u do recoverys and towing with them. i know u couldnt get liek a totaled car with it but
it could work for break downs and even some wrecked cars or do you got to have a tow truck ??
but thease or some questions i have to be anserd here if anyone can
ive tried to get on some part time with the guy that does our work at the apartments but hes got 2 other guys already

Sure, you can start small, many operations do. I would suggest that someone with experience in the industry start a little bigger, perhaps with a start up loan (shorter route to profitability), but you're still learning the biz, so I think small and cheap is the way to go.
The only obstacle to starting small is the high operation costs associated with towing. Fuel and insurance are killers, but you have to have them. One uninsured accident can ruin your financial life. Even a broken window from a lockout can set you back hundreds of dollars.
You can certainly use tow dollies to tow cars. We had a company in my area that used nothing but car trailers to tow cars.

well im jsut asking some questions and stuff wnating to get into the biz and all.
it may be a while an who knows i might be able to jump on the wagon. with the guy that does our towin at teh apartments i get a kick out of that even. when he shows up ill help him use the small dollies to dollie the cars out of the spot an stuff. i find it fun and exciting even some times there is drama involved. they get mad when there ride gets towed but its there own fault. they dont read or nothing
i do get upset when someone parks in the handicapped section and ill usualy call him asap.
but i think i whould liek this buisess i like to help people when in need. if they need there car towed or a jump off or something to that nature.
another thing is ill have to find a storage lot with a fence an lockable gate.
i know i cant do it overnight but im trying to find out ways it can be done to get started.
If you like to help doing dolly tows then come on up to hampton beach,nh.i have the new "in the ditch dolly wheels" i ended up doing 80 dolly tows in 3 months off the beach

im wondering if it really works on like on my half ton 4wd or if it whould be too much of a load for it ?
Half ton is definitely too light for that. Need a one ton dually minimum.
