If Copart does not pick the wrecks up from the yards, than who will? If they let private towers become independent contractors like they did before, will they pay a decent rate this time? The rates they wanted me to pick up cars would have been good, if they paid 100% of my expenses. Brian P.S. AAA would also be good if they paid 100% expenses, than the rate they give you would seem to look alot better huh?
I've never towed for Copart. They have always had their own fleet in my area.
Why pay expenses when some companies are willing to work at a loss?
Not me or you thank goodness.
I would like to see what copart is going to pay there contractors to bring their salvage in. we have towed for IAA only big trucks or macheriny at our normal fleet rate, plus 10 0/0 markup on payouts, this works out very good but do not tow any little cars or p/u's as they only want to pay 1.00 per mile witch we will not do for this price. just have to see what copart is going to pay if it will be worth the time.

Wow! Your right $1 a mile is an extremely poor rate. The unfortunate part is some company will probably work for that.
This has to make some laugh. Who the heck would tow two wrecked cars from two separate lots and then proceed to tow them 50 miles for $38 per vehicle. A complete and utter moron thats who. Oh wait let me guess, some smuck would say if you went out and bought a car carrier for eight cars, than 8 times $38 seems great. Yeah and I was just born yesterday. People make me sick. Oh by the way, the $38 figure I came up with was what I was told by a Copart manager. Like I said before three years ago they tried to give me those rates when they had their own trucks. now they have none and still want to pay peanuts. What a joke!
You speak the truth
You know what I say: Every tow company knows that competitor who is willing to work for nothing...If you don't....it's you.
I know plenty of tow co.s that are running calls at ridiculously low rates, and putting me at the bottom of the motor club lists, etc. How are they stopped though? I have struggled with that for years! I refuse to lower my prices. I tried once, and it totally backfired on me, and probably all of my fellow towers, as the club then used my "new" lower rates against me, and went to the others to ask them to lowert their rates too, which they did, so then I was without calls again! And the few I did get certainly were not worth starting the truck for! What to do?
I don't worry too much about the low-ball operators; their days are numbered because their business skilled are limited.
They cannot afford the training, equipment, and marketing that I can, and I find that most people realize "you get what you pay for".
I just received the Copart towing offer. They have offered $34.95 per car for a tow from my area. Unfortunately, I am at least 25 miles from the local Copart yard.
I'll have to pass.
Coparts rates in my area SUCK BIG TIME! But there are still some dumb-a's doing their work for them.
The yard manager asked me one time, when one of his high dollar-NOT!, towing contractors (Big fancy truck-will probably be on a used truck lot after he figures he ain't makin enuf money to pay for the truck payments) was dropping off a $90,000 vehicle at one of my shop customers lot, why we didn't sign up with them, and I said "yur too frickin cheap-and won't even consider it if ya double yur rate!" His statement was, well you still have truck payments don't you, what the hell does that have to do with the price of tea in china, I said.
I will let the
Copart and IAA are raping the towing industry and so are the insurance companies using them!!!!! So anytime I have a vehicle to be picked up in my Impound - NO BREAKS!!!!!!!!
And now fuel is 3.09+ and rising fast-
All I can say is go ahead and haul for them, make those pennies, while your wasting time, I will get the good money tows!!!!
