why tow for motor clubs? I dont get it. We droped the clubs we towed for. They got so far behind on payments it was unreal. It cost to much money to have a brand new rollback go out to tow a car that you are not going to get payed for anyway. Even if they did pay most of them you dont get many calls from. For you that tow for them tell me if they are paying you and if not why are you still doing it??????
Thanks!
I agree completely! It just doesn't work out on paper. You'll run your truck ragged doing cheap tows.
I think companies that rely on motor club calls probably are not marketing their company properly.
You don't have to work for nothing. Every time I wave at my competitor who tows for AAA, I'm reminded that I'm making 3 times what he is on the same tow.

I'm asking myself that same question!!
I recently tried to jump ship to a company here in town that has most of the areas AAA contracts. My thinking was that no matter how slow it might get because of the economy, the war etc... The company doing AAA would always keep me busy.
WRONG.
After coming to expect checks in the 4 to 5 hundred range per week doing only police rotation calls, I got the surprise of my life when payday came around not once, but twice, and three times and my TWO week checks were not even coming close to my old jobs weekly's..
Luckily my boss wanted me back as bad as I wanted to return and it worked out OK. Twice the work for half the money?????
Not on my watch!

The old company I worked for had the AAA contract and after I left they lost it to a company which was started back up by the former owners son. He's bought all new rollbacks and wreckers and got the AAA contract. He has to take care of the town he's in and the next town where my old company is in 8 miles away and is running ragged. He's is a real smart as s too so I hope he's getting his just deserves now. :ko:

I hear this all the time!!
Here's a little proof that Motor Clubs don't pay/work for dodo!
I started 4 yrs ago for the company I am still working for today.
1st year-988 calls w/AAA, and numerous private shops/customers.
2nd year-1586 calls w/the above same 37% calls increase/28% wage increase
3rd year-1115 calls w/o AAA 42% calls decrease & 6.81% wage decrease-NOT REALLY THAT BAD
4th year-1022 calls w/o AAA 11% calls decrease & 1% wage increase- EVEN BETTER

So now we get less calls and not having to deal with AAA & other Motor Clubs and not running our trucks into the ground, I would rather not work as much and make almost as much commission and not deal with dumbies.
And some of my old AAA members call me anyway and send in the tow bill and get re-imbursed for some if not all of the bill.
Even sometimes when AAA can't find one of its providers to service the calls in my area I still get the call and charge "MY" rates to the customer and AAA reimbuses them for the call-OH TOO BAD FOR AAA-NOT!
:rasp:
I even have been dropped from other motorclubs because we don't help them out when the weather is real bad, cause we are busy enough with Law Enforcement rotations and private calls, they hurt my feelings & business by doing this-NOT!
It might get slow if the economy keeps heading in the direction it is heading, but at least we aren't doing it for cheap and making a minimal rate daytime and afterhours alike. :thumb:
