We have been in business for 10 years now and have, only in the last year, started to run motor club calls. I have learned from CCMS that (8 year old contract) that they will never raise the rates.
When I contracted with AAA I held out for more than most in this forum seem to be recieving. That was great. Now they have done something I was not expecting... Added a new membership, Premier.
This gives the costomer 200 free miles (AAA paid miles). I told them I sighned up for 2 rates. Basic = 3 free then costomer pays $3.00/mile. Plus = AAA pays for the first 100 miles then the costomer pays $3.00/mile.
We recieved a call today for almost 200miles on a Preimer member. Now...I want $3.00 after 100 on primier and they say No No No. We'll only pay $2.00 for the extra miles we are giving away. I offered to go for $2.25/mile overall. They say I'll lose there business if I don't "take the good with the bad". I told thim I hated to see it come to this, but to do what that need to do, and to call me if they changed there mind.javascript:emoticon('' smilie
They will probably pay a non-contracted provider $3.00/ mile, even though we have provided 100 times the service they were geting before we took over (The old guys went bankrupt for AAA @ $22/ call).
My Question is have any of you other AAA providers gotten a change in rates on this priemer membership? If so how much and how is it payed; after the 1st 100miles or increase the $ amoumt on the over all milage?
THANKS, Atom

You know what's sad. That's still the going rate in my state of Washington.
That's interesting; I hadn't heard about the new membership level. I don't tow for AAA, for the obvious reason stated above, so I can't help with your question. Perhaps someone else can. I won't even start my truck for $22! I don't know how some can do it?I was picking up at a dealer the same time a AAA guy from Cleveland was dropping off. He said their base on a AAA tow is $14.
I just don't get it. Why bother starting the truck?I know. Like I said these guys never go up. They'll pay some one else more while they let you go bankrupt. We started out at MORE THAN DOUBLE $17.49javascript: InstaSmilie() javascript: InstaSmilie() I can't disclose my rate.
If you stay with these guys to long, you can't afford to lose them. You are making money and staying busy and not adding on new accounts.Things are going good , then cost go up and they don't (all motor clubs). The checks that come in are BIG but the profit margin is low.
Don't get me wrong we are making money but not enough to be losing on long distance tows. Not only that, if I start bending now, whats to keep me from being the guy, 15 years from now, going bankrupt for around $30 to $45 a tow (don't want to disclose that ratejavascript: InstaSmilie() javascript: InstaSmilie()).
Let me know if you guys here anything about this new PRIMER MEMBERSHIP, and what they are doing about the extra milage. javascript:emoticon('' smilie Thanks, AtomLAST TIME THAT WE TOWED FOR THAT MC IT WAS 11.52 AND WE HAD TO FIGHT FOR THE CALLS OVER A PRIMARY COMPANY. AS I SEE IT THE CUSTOMER DOES'NT CARE IF ITS PRIMARY OR SECONDARY CO. BUT IT SEEMS TO BE WHO GREESED THE WHEEL.... ALSO WE HAD A VICE PRES. FROM THAT COMPANY TO SAY IT WAS A OK TO LET A CUST. TO SIT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR 2 HOURS FOR THE PRIMARY CO TO ASSIST THE CUSTOMER. THAT WAS IN SOUTH FL. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE HAVE'NT SERVED THAT CO. FOR YEARS.
In our area AAA customers sometimes wait 4-6 hours. I tow for them on occassion but I get my regular rates from them. example for a 70 mile tow for AAA they pay me my regular rate of $350.00. As the rest have said, I won't start my truck for AAA rates. I have quit towing for all but 2 motor clubs. I am not wearing my trucks out for motor club prices. As was already said you can get big checks from a lot of club tows but the profit goes way down when wear and tear and repairs on trucks eat away at it. True, I don't have as many tows as when I did motor clubs but profits are up because I am not wearing my trucks out.I don't tow for them anymore but I remember getting the flier that explained about the "premier" memberships. I turned one down even. It's just a Plus on steroids. Still just pay their crappy rates for the whole tow. Minus whatever they get for free from you. Theoretically there could be no end to the mileage plans that they will offer. Next it'll be the, "Bent over tower 500".Just out of curiosity, what would that 100 mile tow bring in under the "Premier plan"? Is it $2 / mile plus hook or ???
Retail I'd do a 100 mile run for around $240 plus tax (for a passenger car). Probably a little on the cheap side, but I used to drive truck OTR, for me it's just a nice relaxing drive. But I won't cross state lines (I'm not registered with the US-DOT). I'm about 120 miles from the nearest state line so the few times it comes up I send them over to the local US-DOT registered tower. Why not do the tow for their rates and collect the other 1.00 a mile from customer?
Over the Christmas holiday I was doing a run and it was rush hour saw a car sitting on side of road (female by herself) go drop car about45 mins away from this point where car is and drop come back get gas and soda and go back home. Come around the spot car still there. So I stop to see if everything is Ok she says shes been sitting here waiting for 3As 2hrs 45 mins at this point so I try to get the job just so she can get where shes going she declines so I give her a card and move on another hour goes by I get the call from her She was so mad at this time I get it out of her that they cant find her.She was cancel membership after they repay her.Next Page...
