Well I've dropped most of the MC's for various reasons. I have one I do work for regularly and a couple that I do work for sporatically. The rest are "credit card only".

I'm wondering what everyone's experience has been with securing "significant" increases to offset the tremendous increases we have seen in fuel costs. Also who has dropped MC work because of the overhead increases.

What a disappointment. I thought that there was going to be some secrets on how to get motorclub increases. But alas there really is no way to get increases from motorclubs unless you DO stop towing for them.
Most reps don't return my calls so when the dispatchers try to give me a call I tell them that I'll only tow for them retail until their rep calls me. It's worked with varying success. The reps call or I do cash calls for them, or I don't hear from them.

ge,geico, allstate, road am,asurion no problems getting increases. ccas never happen
One good thing about Asurion, they will pay whatever you have them put in the contract. Of course the more you charge the further down the list you go but that's fair.

All I've ever had to do was send them a fax and the rates were changed within a couple days. I charge them their max coverage for local tows and get about 10 a week from them.

so what are some of the rates?
I have a couple at around $45 hook and some free miles.

You can get MC contracts all day long at $30 - $35 hook. I have one at $35 hook and some free miles sitting on my desk, just waiting for my signature. I don't see any reason to sign it.

The bottom line is that to get a lot of Motor Club work in an urban area, you have to work cheap. Probably around your cost.

Most of the Motor Clubs only call me at night when none of their providors are answering their phones. I accept credit cards only, I've learned the hard way to not accept PO's. I have 2 PO's totaling $165 that I took for retail MC calls that they won't pay.

I pay a little extra to get listed at the top of the various online yellow pages. The MC dispatchers are lazy, they just call the person at the top of the page. When they call me at night, I normally charge about $100 which is higher than retail most of the time.

 About the only decent paying motor club from a drivers perspective seems to be Road America... And for the wonderful AAA  :veryangry: (thats a bad word in my house) they are never satisfied. I have lately had a big increase in AAA calls to accidents, not break-downs but Chevy Cavalier-vs-Peterbilt variety, and they don't do anything but give my dispatcher headaches when I try to get paid for clean-up, time on scene, etc.
