Another current Post about wages earned driving for AAA brings me to start this Post.

One of the reasons I`m no longer in the Biz is here in Phoenix  $500.00 a week is viewed as OK!!!

When I was driving here in the mid 90`s working for a Major operation I was guaranteed 6.00 per hour against 22% Commision. All Police calls I got a Flat $8.50 for  every Tow. NO ups/ add ons. Plus I had a Damage deposit on my neck for $500.

Soo... Folks what are you Honestly making/paying drivers?  Please be Honest. :brow:

I can tell you what I was making 3 years ago when I was actually working for somebody else. I started off with a "franchised" roadside assistance company doing almost entirely MC work, my pay was 28% commission, I believe the weekly minimum was $350 / week. However, that minimum was for 12 hrs / day, 7 days a week.

For a short time I worked for the same person's towing operation, same thing ,mostly MC work. Pay was salary of $425 / week, based on 12 hrs/ day, 6 days a week.

Take this for what it's worth, I think companies run into problems because they put on trucks and drivers to take low margin MC work, rather than running lean and using MC stuff for filler.

At this point in time, it's $8/hour for the first 40 hours. After that, it's $12/hour. Drivers are guaranteed at least $300/wk. Overtime hours at time and a half usually equal around 20.
here in the seacoast ,after 8 years im at 12.00 per hr/50 hr per week,40% commision after hrs.$35 for pd calls
We pay our drivers 30-32% of every call MC/PD/COD - While in training they make 25% if they come to us with NO experience and we have to run calls with them for a week.

When we are busy they make ok money 600 a week or so but when we are slow it is hard for all of us to make a living!  I'm trying to restructure our pay scale to start at 350.00 a week then over 100 (in 2 weeks) they get a commission - I don't know how that will turn out though - they work 6 days a week 3 weeks and 5 days a week the other week - they rotate nights and every third weekend they have Fri night-sunday off.

we run 11 hour shifts but there is a lot of down time (a truck can only get soooo clean :-)

That is all I have on that subject for now :drivin:
Mrs. Tow

I have been working for the same company for 4+ yrs and started out @ 35% and within a week and they realized I did know what I was doing they raised to 37.5%.
When business is good I make $850-1000 @ week and when slow downwards of $5-600 @ week.  However this past pay period for 2 weeks was only $650-which sucks but we have been overly dead and so have the area shops.
And some have switched over to another company for a cheaper rate (which I won't match) after some time they will either have to raise their rate or go out of business (as have "ALL" the others) especially with diesel @ $3.09 a gallon.
And I have had 2 rollbeds the 1 now is just coming up on a year old and I just love it!!!!!  So it makes the job that much more fun to work in.
Not bad to average $2850 @ month and drive a pretty fancy truck around, however I am on call 24/7 with very few days off a year, but I am money driven and don't put that many hours in a month to make this average.

:happydance:  :drivin:  :hardrock:

Well I'm new here so Hi!  Been Doin this on and off for about 14 yrs...

I don't know about US rates But up here in Canada(At least my area)the norm is 35% comission.
On a normal week it brings about 600 (including CAA work)

this is the first job i werked on a hrly pay but for me it is $10.00 an hr and 40 hrs garunted and 2.5 overime  a week. Also i get 25% on everything i do after hours so i am happy usally take home after taxes anywhere from 500-600 a week. Also my truck stays with me when i am off and oh yeah they cook for us so i have lunch paid for every day with eating home cooked meals.
Whats commision??...lol  Our boss bends us over!!  3 years with same company, just got up to $7.15 an hour FLAT,only because the minimum wage just went up, no commision, no nothing.  Good thing I like what I do, or I would be making $.25 more an hour working the drive through window at K.F.C as there is NO job market here in michigan for anything else!
