What are they talking about when they want to know the GOA, Gone on Arrival fee? how do you charge for that? Also what do you charge and what does it mean when they want to know the Eroute mile fee? Thanks so much.
This should really be in the Motor Club forum, since the questions are really MC specific.
OK, a GOA (Gone On Arrival) is where you show up, and the customer is not there. Some MC's will also pay this rather than the full service fee if for whatever reason a service call does not work (say a car won't start on a jump, or a tire is frozen on on a tire change).
En-route. Most of the time, you will state a number of "free" miles, then you charge per mile to get to a vehicle. You may wonder "Why would I charge, I'm getting paid for the tow?". They may ask you to drive 30 miles to do a 2 mile tow. You just lost money without en-route.
You're going to get 100 opinions on free miles, depending on the person. Also some clubs will want 15 or 20 free miles. IMHO - shoot for 5 free miles, 10 if you have to. If a company requires more free miles, DO NOT service long calls for them, or you will lose money. IMO, $1 - $2 per mile is fair.
NOW - I say this with the utmost respect. If you do not know what the above terms mean, you are not ready to negotiate or sign and MC contracts. You need to get on all the Towing boards, and read the MC forums from top to bottom. In addition to this one, read "another board" (I think the admin here has this name filtered out, for good reason) www.towtalk.net and www.argosi.net
GOA = means your gonna get screwed and working for free.
NO FREE miles NONE !!!
GOA===should be atleast 3/4 of your hook rate if not your entire hook rate....
In route should be atleast $ 2 mile....
You also need to figure what it cost to run your truck.. so you know if you can make money doing club work...at the rates they want to pay...
