This poll sucks. yesAAA in my area means getting up at 3 am in the morning and changing tires on the side of I-65 with inches to spare from being flatened. no thanks oh yea my cut for this kind effort is 10 bucks after the pay is split up. I don't mind changing tires at 3 am. As long as I can make money doing it. Retail calls I charge $10 extra at night. I very rarely take nighttime MC calls anymore. Let them call down the list to someone they are paying more. Occasionally I will get retail calls from MC customers "They called everyone and couldn't find anybody to come out". I just laugh and explain how much the MC is offering, they usually understand why I didn't take the MC call.AAA Calls-24hrs a day $20.00 response, 2.10@ mile after 5 free. Towing, service calls, lock-out, jump starts. This contract was signed over 5 yrs ago and they wanted to lower the rate on us, back when fuel was near $3.00 a gallon-YEAH RITE! I'll get right on that for you!!!!!!!!!! NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Private Calls-8am-5pm $pay over double that 5pm-8am $pay almost3-6 times that Don't need to be a math wizard to decide if you want to get out of bed for AAA, and run your tires off and gas or diesel, IT DON"T ADD UP, no matter what math you use.
And I haven't missed a Law Enforcement call since I dropped AAA (cause it never failed about the time your were loaded up and taking the AAA member where they needed to be, the Law Enforcement call would come in and there was no way possible you could make the 30min ETA to cover the police calls).
So I leave those high dollar AAA calls for those that want to make a little bit o money and I will take their Law Enforcement calls for real money. And Last night for instance the other guys are doing an extraction for a whopping $30 total and I am doing mine for $143, 38 mins involved. hmmm, who is making more money at 11:30pm at night? They have to do 3+ to make the same amount with alot more miles/time involved, I guess volume works for them, is my calculator working properly?
pjsdad must be a AAA fan????????I thought the poll said it all and covered everyones possbile feelings. AAA is great for the members but not the providers and some of the other M/C's are just as bad, so they can find someone else to do 3 times the work for the money/time/miles.
Hopefully as costs increase, more people will realize that they need to reduce their MC load and only take the ones that are profitable. I've been in business for 26 months now, and just starting to see the retail end pick up as more people get to know me as the guy to call...
I can't tell you how helpful it was to be able to come on the net and be able to talk to other people and learn from others' experiences. Sometimes knowing what NOT to do is as important as knowing what to do. Nope not a AAA fan. That comment was tounge in cheek as it's my poll. Especially when they pay about 25 base with ten miles free and about 2 a mile one way and it costs a buck a mile both ways to run the truck.
So 100 mile call - 10free =90@2=180+25 for base =205. 100 mile call X both ways=200mile @ a buck per mile to run the truck=200. So I did pay my direct costs to run the truck, but I only made 5 dolla's to go towards my indirect costs and didnt make any profit. Ran my truck more and tired it out, but my insurance per mile went down.
20 mile call.... 20-10free = 10@2=20+25base=45. 20 X both ways = 40 X buck a mile=40. 5 bucks.
10 mile call....10-10 free=0+25 base=25. 10 X both ways = 20 X buck a mile=20. 5 bucks.
5 mile call....5-10 free= 0+25 base =25. 5 X both ways = 10 X buck a mile=10. 15 bucks.
