Do any of you guys use GPS systems? if so what do you use?
the CAA fleet trucks here used to use them. i don't know if they still do, all the drivers unplugged them.
i use a program on my nextel called telenav.net.i can put my address in from my computer at home or the garage,i can use voice prompts to put the address in or i can type it in from the keypad.i have a motorola I860 and i can see the directions,it will tell me "turn left in 0.6 miles"while it has an arrow with the left arrow on it.it is accurate from anywhere from 5 ft to about 80 ft is the farthest i have seen it.if you have no nextel signal after you have the address put in it does not matter because it works off the satellites in the sky.when you set up the phone the first time, put in your home or work address so you can get home if you do long tows.i have mine mounted on my dash with a squeeze holder from radio shack Cat # 17-548 and the holder from telenav.net.the thing thats good about having it in the phone is if you drive different trucks or want to take it in your car you can.if you have one mounted in your truck you cant take it with you

We use GPS systems for navigation but not for fleet tracking. Are you looking at a fleet tracking solution?
Right Here is a short article we ran on the Nextel solution which includes digital dispatching ability.
Im looking for navigation Im looking at the garmin 2620 seems to the best thing going right now for me....what do you use bill?
the program telenav.net also has a finder for trucks.i can find out where you are, send you my location ,send my location to 911 if i need help. if you use the garwin gps,it just gives you directions,no talking.email me and i will send you my location and show you what i am talking about.or you can go to telenav.net for a demo
Personally I'm using a laptop with Microsoft Streets and Trips and a Garmin eTrex GPS unit.
I have looked extensively at the 2620 and the StreetPilot devices but I found them to be little pricey compared to the PDA/GPS Nav systems like the iQue 3600 for instance. Not only are the PDA based systems cheaper, they have much larger screens (touch-screens) than the 2620.
A friend of mine has a Mio GPS, it's a sweet unit, and under $500.
This Site has reviews of many GPS products.

Hey let me jump in here and say that if you go GPS you want be sorry. Take it from someone who used to have a real problem with directions. Heck if I would have had this I might still be married:) I didn't want to have one more thing to worry about when the calls came from the dispatch so I decided on a Garmin 2610 and I love it. So far I can only do a few things it is already worth tons more then it cost. Speaking of cost if your looking for a great price try Amazon.com When I bought mine I got a rebate from them for a 100.00 and also one from Garmin for a 100.00. Even if there was no money back I would be happy with the unit. Inbetween money calls I haul scrap or wrecked cars to the junk yard and it is great just typing in an address and knowing that I can trust it enough just to concentrate on driving. Not only will it get you where you want to go but it also knows the way home:) There are some great units out there so I know you will be happy with any you choose. Good luck, ben
Thanks beemerben for the input I went ahead and purchased the 2620 from ebay for just over 725.00 after rebate..and your absoultely right It is tough on things when your looking for an address..the problem I'm having is two fold in new to this area (only 6 months) plus the hurricanes took down most of the street signs and some wont be relaced for another 6 months to a year! (a real nightmare at night I'll tell ya!
.
I have a laptop I use but it is just too bulky and hard to use when driving
I should recieve the 2620 today or tommorow I'll keep you guys posted Thanks Again!
like you guys i used to carry a laptop in my truck for directions and even had it mounted on a swivel mount like the ones in some of the police cars.after awhile ,i got rid of the lap top because it would take to much time to set up.i looked at the gps units you guys are all talking about but found them to be to expensive and finally looked at the nextel phones with gps.i bought my phone for about $100 and the telenav.net program i use is about $10 per month.i looked at the cost per use and found out it was more cost efective then buying a gps unit.
