BBB terminates Cingular’s membership for consumer unfriendly behavior

Quote
It’s an incident which could very well cloud Cingular Wireless’ claim of being a consumer friendly service provider. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Upstate New York has decided to terminate its membership for non-friendly behavior with its subscribers. BBB is a non-profit consumer forum that not only acts as an interface between the consumers and the companies, but also keeps close tabs on a company’s responsiveness to consumer complaints.

The findings were revealed by The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, a New York based newspaper.

In its counter argument, Cingular has stated that the charges of being unresponsive to consumer complaints are unfounded and it will convey this message to the agency. Rochelle Cohen, Spokesperson for Cingular says, "We take all customer complaints very seriously, and we're working diligently to address the concerns brought to our attention by the BBB of Upstate NY. We want to set this right." The company has also initiated damage control exercise and today a group of its officials will be meeting BBB representatives. Cohen adds, “We will be meeting with BBB representatives today to address any outstanding issues they may have, and we will apply for reinstatement as soon as possible. It's very important for us to be a member in good standing."

Cingular’s expulsion is believed to be based on BBB’s findings that Cingular left 20 complaints unanswered and has a total of 200 complaints during the past three years. The expulsion has become effective and Cingular can now hope to reapply for the fresh membership only after a year.

Hey they opened an office here, and two weeks later it was closed, rumor has they teamed up with alltel,we were trying to cell service from them and they wanted a 500.00 deposit for a 39.00 plan, and a cheap free phone!
I had to give a deposit like that for nextel.  It was only cause I don't have enough of a credit history.  I also went with the i530 (this was shortly after it came out) I got my money back after a year as long as my phone never got shut off.  they just want to make sure that you are gonna make good on your contract and such and not skip out on them with their phone.  it is a rather standard practice if you don't have a credit rating or a bad credit rating.
I know this topic is old, but here is what is happening in my area now a year plus later.
We have had AT&T ( and work awesome), but when Cingular bought them out/or they merged, the service has gotten so crappy, however all the others don't work in most of the areas that AT&T/Cingular worked in, but now that its just Cingular they raised the bar too high, cause most of the time my phones bar won't reach their bar.  And thats how my voice mail message stated for awhile.
Sure wish they would come up with a cellular service that worked everywhere, I would even be willing to pay a little extra, yes I know they have the satelite services, but holy cow they want your 1st and 2nd born for monthly rate-not a bad idea giving them up, but!!!!!!

That's good!  :sofunny:

We use Verizon here for the best coverage. We also use Nextel, but the merge with Sprint has me scared because Sprint has a poor rep here.

Yea, I'm not too thrilled about the whole Sprint / Nextel thing. I got Nextel because they were business oriented. What they have now is a quasi-merger. They say the companies are together, but when you call in they ask "Are you a Sprint or a Nextel customer?". Geez lady, your system can't answer that question for you??
Well that's good news. I'd rather they be separate anyway. I don't want to loose the business discounts I get from Nextel.
