I'm just curious if towing gets to anyone else ? or if I am just an over sensitive idiot? it's mostly people you get from motor club tows who are impossible to deal with and want you there in 5 minutes no matter how many red lights you have to run or other cars you have to plow into for a mere 33 dollar tow.... I ask myself everyday when dispatching .... why me? and we own the company you would think you can reserve the right to refuse service to anyone ,not these people.. I guess I am starting to feel like I have turned into a harsh uncaring person after dealing with these people all the time. is this normal ? does anyone else have the same issues?

I think your problem is the motor club work! I don't do it, therefore I don't have a problem with it!
see that is the Problem the only towing we do right now is motor clubs and shop accounts were in the process of trying to go RTTO which is pretty in depth Im finding out
so is there another market that is so pushy ,that we are not tapping into? I'm just frustrated because like I said no matter how you try these people are horribly rude and demanding , I even end up being grouchy towords my kids after dealing with towing all day there just has to be a happy medium somewhere

Like Josh said, the problem is Motor Club customers. It's very rare for a retail customer to get mouthy with me.
The fact is - that if someone pays zero dollars for your service, that's how much value they place in your service - and you.
If someone is upset because of the situation I have learned to deal with that, it's part of being in the emergency services. However as soon as one ounce of anger or attitude gets directed my way, I will warn the person once. The second time I drive away. My business, my truck, my life.
You can try something fun with your MC customers. Put the amount the MC is paying on the paperwork before having the customer fill it out. The fact is many of these customers believe that the MC's are paying retail or better.

kenny smith`s towing service
actually thanks to all of your advice I am starting to feel better ,and as one of you pointed out It is my company and I can say no
you see if their tow paid me 800.00 dollars I would surely keep a truck warmed up and ready with their name on it unfortuanately the motor club tows only pay 33 dollars and are going less than 5 miles and my drivers have to deal with piss poor attitudes . so we have now decided that again it is our company and we do not have to take abuse from people either ,because as you said also their are the few greatfull very nice customers who just cant thank you enough and it is starting to balance out abit thank god
thank you guys for all your advice

The more i think about it lets look at the towing as trying to
fill up a bucket with rain drops, big rain drops will fill the bucket
up real fast, and motor clubs are small rain drops they will put
water in the bucket, just not that fast.keep the faith it will get
better.just keep hoping for big rain drops.

My 2 cents......Get mouthy with me and your-a-walkin.....
Don't do MC's......I personnaly cherrish every single dime I earn, simply would'nt give a percentage (and a large one at that I might add) of my hard earned income to a billion dollar indusrty that doesn't give a rats A_ _ if I live or die.
Just my 2 cents
Customers can be upset, thats often expected when their day goes all wrong, but I wont allow their anguish to be directed toward me or my driver. They had to wait on me......run yer mouth and you'll still be waitin when the next truck finally shows up!

I wouldnt go out and start making everone call another company. But I wouldnt take an unreasonable amount of fecal matter either.
I think that you probably feel some frustration at being kinda tied to the motorclubs for now. Use it as motivation to go out and take more of the retail market.
One thing that I try to do is take control right at the beginning. Tell them to do something. You folks can go ahead and get in the truck. Don't open the doors while I'm winching. Don't stand behind the vehicle while I'm winching. I'll need the keys in the ignition.
I have limits to what I'll take and if we start flirting with that line I just let them know that these are the rules and I will, gently at first let them know that I don't have to run this call. I'm under no obligation to get paid 50% of a regular call.
I've used the phrase Roadside Welfare with the ones that think they are way better than me.
Anyway,
hang in there man. You're working for yourself.
Just think of all the crap you don't have to take from a boss. We get paid to go out and help people
.
why not just laugh at them? i like when any customer starts getting loud
and i start pointing and laughing at them.
when they ask what am i laughing at, i just say you, thinking that if you rant and rave your car will be all better
