I have a light duty truck with a wheel lift, I have been reading concerns online about Oil Pan Damage. Does anyone have or used pan pillow? And is there any advise on not having oil pan damage?
What brand of wheel lift do you run? We run primarily Vulcan and have no pan issues.
It's a Century 411-412 Bed with a Century Wheel Lift.
This is the information I'm talking about.

Some wheel-lifts are more susceptible to pan damage due to their design, but that century wheel-lift is a good one and should not be an issue.

Part of you hook-up procedure should be checking the clearance between the crossbar and the vehicles undercarriage, 3 inches is usually plenty. If clearance is low you can always raise the car higher which will usually increase clearance (since the pan in in front of the tires), or get a tighter bite on the tires with your L-arms.

Furthermore, steel oil pans are very durable and light impacts will not usually result in damage, or will result in a minor ding that does not effect function.

The big risk comes with cast oil pans that will not bend, but instead will break when significantly impacted. Even these cast pans will absorb some impact. Many also have strengthening ribs on the pan that will break off before the pan fails.

We don't use pan pillows or any device to prevent this kind of damage and never had an issue with it. I don't think you will either if you check that clearance before towing.  :drivin:

Thanks for your response. I am learning alot from the group. I am new at this, and I want to educate myself properly. I really apperciate sound advice I'm getting from this site.

Thank you.
