got a simple repo that another repo agent gave up on ... the car was sitting waiting in there driveway up a hill with no battery come to find out i made my way up to the car. checked the vin on the dash real quick got in with the key supplied and went to go put it in the ignition and nothing the ignition lock had been changed at some point in its life it so i got out my rake pick and tension bar and tried to pick it. 5 mins later no luck. just about the time i was going to get out and go back to my truck the debtor's came home in there other car. lucky me the was a cold rainy night and the windows where all fogged & covered in condensation i just laid down across the seat and watched as the ran into there house. i didn't have any other tools with me to take off the steering column covers without breaking them so i sneaked back off there property and went home for the night .. the next day i went to the local junk yard to study the steering lock and shift lock on another likeness gm car because my knowledge  on GM's is very limited. after looking at it for about 30 seconds it came very clear to me how i was going to get this car into neutral and the steering lock loose without damaging it so i could get it down there driveway. if i owned a repo truck i would have been ez to just back up to it and drag it out of there down to the road but no just me my beater dodge and flat bed parked down the street 3 blocks all down hill ramps down and ready to load that night 11pm i went back to finish the job the debtors where home  all the lights where off and here i am back with a t-15, flathead screwdriver, and a u shaped piece of 1/4 inch plastic took about 20 seconds to get the covers off and unscrew the tilt lever and another 15 second to undo the shifter lock cable and put the u shaped plastic between the steering lock wheel and the ignition lock to keep the rod down popped the e-brake off and nothing. brakes where rusted a lil in place. i had to get out and push a lil to get it to break free soon as i got it rolling it was a quick turn around mid driveway rolling back up the neighbors driveway a little and down the street I went coasted my 3 blocks to the back of my flatbed rolled right up on it chained it down and I was gone....

Just an FYI most domestic ignition locks are going to be sidebar locks and are not conventionally pickable. The only way to do it is to drill a hole and apply pressure to the sidebar then work the wafers. The other option is to use rocker picks which simulate a key.

They are different than most door locks that are simple wafer locks that are relatively easy to pick.

Good point Jason.

CARS, I would also suggest you practice disconnecting the tranny linkage and shift units into neutral by hand.

Also, if you are not using a self loader, brush up on your confrontational skills and back your truck up to the unit and get the unit by "Voluntary Compliance".

Stay safe.

 unfourtunely i dont have a truck Yet. i did find one but at the moment i have to unload a couple of my toys so i can pay off one of my loans so i can get the truck im looking at. i dont have the perfect credit so 3 car loans will not go over with the bank. on the bright side the truck already has a dynamic bed on it. and only 134k it would have been nice to have last night when the Debtor came out with a baseball bat when i was driving off in his truck that barely wanted to keep running... " k5 blazer  carbureted turd." not ez sneeking away from the house when its got glass packs.

You know, given the scenario of dead battery and brakes rusted tight, the owner might have been happy to hand you the keys and see it go away. The lots now are selling absolute garbage that they get the value for in the first 5 payments.

I had one early this year, the owner was in the middle of bankrupcy so the bank would not take back the car (which had broken down in a business lot and had been sitting for months). So the owner called me, I had her pay the tow and two days' storage then I called the bank and they picked it up from my lot.

  i just ask for the keys..... works for me !!!!
