Arent they conspiring to keep the towing industries rates low? I know the story about the guys and the AAA rep and his pad of paper. But, It's not like AAA sticks to the letter of the contract. "The members not there but we're going to make an exception." "Yes we know this is their tenth call but we're going to cover it." "They are over hill and dale in the mud down an un maintained road but we're going to cover it."
I suppose that's why we are able to turn down calls witout it being a breech of the contract?
I think that when AAA contractors allow them to "make an exception" or "cover it anyway" that we just bending over. They sure stick to the parts of the contract that benifits them. I get one of these "exception" calls and I say that I'll do it for retail rates and they lose their minds. "I'm going to have to report this to your rep if you don't take this call."
I get over 27 a call and over 2.18 a mile. If a tower does a tow for someone from my area AAA and their rates are 23 and 1.75, why don't they get the rate that my club would normally pay me?
I don't know. Maybe AAA is just how pure evil manifests itself. But it sure seems like they're doing something illegal. I guess the only thing that we can do is talk to the public and inform them one person at a time that paying a hundred bucks a year for something that you use once every ten years is probably not very smart. "But who would I call if I get stranded". 911 and ask for a tow truck.

Just my opinion, they aren't trying to keep industry rates down, just their rates.

It boggles my mind that anyone would start a wrecker for a 2 digit number that starts with a "2".

I have a towing contract on my desk right now with a $35 hook. It's been sitting there for a week and I don't see any reason to do anything with it other than let it sit. I'm not in the "break even" business.

If people really want a Motor Club, I tell them to go through their cell phone (Asurion or GE). Yea, it's crappy service, but no worse than AAA as far as I can tell.

  I'll second that entire sentiment!
Ditto from me!i tried getting insurance through them and they told i didn't fit their criteria! :veryangry:
in my AAA club area, we do sprint through them, kinda sucks to be honest with you, somehow the sprint members seem to expect alot out of you, and they rarely go past the 3 miles free tow
