Yippiee!!! Husband said we have to buy a new computer for our shop bookkeeper!! (it's about time) the only thing we are not sure of is... what kind. Currently, we have an old hand-me-down that barely runs windows xp-home edition, and quick-books. (Ha!.. quick?...yea right....more like...incredibly slow-books). I would like to get a whole new system- 3 or 4 new computers for all of us and maybe...somehow.. network some stuff. But I'm not a computer genius. Heck....I'm not even a computer geek. Any tips? Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks, Anna - littleblondiewtowing me and my son have a compaq presario w/compaq 7550 monitor, the tower has 2.70ghz intel celoron processor,256mb ddr sdram memory,40gb ultra dma hard drive, and a cd-rw drive 48x24x48x max speed.model #sr1010nx with two usb ports audio plug ins,and platinum speakers, what ever you do don't buy one from wal-mart to many returns,my son works for wal-mart.if he has any other input as to buy i'll let you know... My computer company installs computers and networks all the time and the computer we use most often is Dell, and the Dell 3000 is the most used for office applications. They were about $450 dollars a piece and work wonderfully for all the applications that you might use in the office including Mitchel automotive repair software and Quickbooks 2003.
We generally go with with the basic Intel Celeron 3.2 GHz. But we increase the memory to 512 MB, and add a DVD-ROM installing software.
Unless you have a special need such as playing 3D games, the Dell 3000 is a great computer and a good deal. Hmmm...thanks for the tips...didn't understand most of what Bob said...but it sounded really good. (i too wouldn't recommend wal-mart....their stuff is just not made very well). By the way.....just how hard is it to set up a network? just curious.
thanks Anna littleblondietowing don't feel bad niether did i,just what was on our computer papers, you see i'm not the computer wiz,my son is,he's been a wiz since he was about 8yrs old.
It's not that hard to simply network the computers. If you need to share Internet connections or need to add security it gets a bit more complicated. But hey, we have a computer help forum...
BTW: I would avoid Compaq and HP computers. In my experience these are the two worst production boxes you can buy. (HP printers are very good though)
