Does any body have any imput on 66 int travelalls,i bought one acouple of weeks ago for $600,all original except for hub caps, also any body know where some extra parts are let me know.....
We used to have a Travelall, it was possibly the best 4x4 we ever owned. We used it when the terrain was too rough for a tow truck. I can remember driving right past other stuck vehicles in order to pull them out. I attribute it's offroad ability to the very tall and narrow 16" mudders we ran on it.

No idea where you could find parts.

:hardrock: thanks bill keep your ears open to any parts, what do you think about cutting the back part off for atow truck :boo:
:boo: i went into vintage vibes .com and they replied back what the #$%^ is a travelall? :thud:  :thud:  :boo:
  :help: does anybody know if you can put winches on both ends of my truck?i'm looking to put them under the front and back bumpers, and on the front a jumper box to do jump starts.any brand of winch suggested?i'm looking at the ones autozone has in stock here.
Sure you can. Many companies make good solid winch bumpers that will hold that winch securely.

The two top brands of winches are Warn and Ramsey; both are quality products that would serve you well.

The real question is "worm gear" or "planetary", and "electric or "hydraulic".

Worm gear has a lower transfer efficiency which lets the winch "auto brake" under load. In other words, it won't let out line under a load unless you reverse the motor. Planetary is more compact and faster, which is handy for re-spooling, but because of it's higher transfer efficiency, it requires a clutch mechanism to prevent spooling out under a load.

A hydraulic winch (powered by your power steering pump) is much lighter than it's electric counterpart and can pull harder and longer without overheating, and doesn't require an alternator upgrade like many electric winches. The disadvantage is the winch only works with the engine running.

If you go electric, you can power the with with the same jump socket you'll use for jump starts. The disadvantage is most alternators cannot keep up with the drain from a long pull which kills your battery.

   thank you for the information, looks like the hydraulic will be the one i'll go with since you said it won't overheat or drain the battery.i was thinking about an electric winch but i forgot that it could drain my battery.i had that same problem on my gmc out in arizona, and my holmes 440 in barstow it was run from battery power. :thumb:
Do you think it would be suggestable to install a second battery on my truck?and also you may think this sounds crazy but i took large for sale signs and made my own magnetic signs pretty wierd or cool. :sofunny: hey its cheap at this time.
Well this vehicle is gone, got repoed by a underhanded towing company illegal as heck, but whats funny when the jack a$$ pulled away the travelall dropped off the hook and the front end is shot to heck, the driver was running an illegal tow truck which i now sitting do to my ranting and raving about prc numbers and what not there have been 12 illegal towing companies pop up here in alamogordo, but nobody is willing to go up against them tp put them under.........
