Has anyone out there been using a Sterling Acterra w/Jerr-Dan BIC steel carrier, 210hp w/6sp and 3:08 ratio, comments greatly accepted
.
We have one on order, thinking this would be a good combination (per JD Powers reveiws
).
Getting rid of a 2000 IH 4700 w/ that wonderful T444E (piece of dodo), our IH dealer sucks here and want nothing more to do with them or Navistar ever again, almost considered a UD over IH (slapping self for even thinking this way) but reality took over finally:thud:
Thought we would be the first in our area, then poof one of the competition should up a day after our order went in.
Even looked at Freightliner M2's but reminded us too much like the IH
Nice trucks,i know that alot of nascar tracks use them, thats about as much i know about them, but they are good looking trucks.
i want one one of these days.
I can't find anything wrong with your setup. I might say if you can afford it to go with a bigger engine. I currently run a '01 Chevy 6500 with about a 200 H.P. Cat. It gets the job done, but getting on the highway and such would be a little easier with a few more horses.
Hey Scooter,
I have driven an over the road truck with a lousy L-10 Cummins with 80,000 and I know the meaning of SSSSLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWWW freeway on-ramp approaching, it SUCKED BIG TIME.
However the Mercedes, they rate their Horsepower at the rear wheels, so hopefully it will be sufficient <sp>. I thought about kickin it up, but the dealer assured me they would boost it to 230 for no charge if I am not happy with the preformance, I just didn't want to go to big horse, and loose the fuel performance too.
I have been driving the past 2-1/2 yrs with 175 HP and 210 will be a great improvement.
Chomppin at the bit, supposed to have been here last week, but the factory screwed up and it won't be leaving til the 15th and then to the equipment supplier to install the deck and then back here
and then to discover yesterday the 2 Troopers that do inspection and approvals for us, will be gone on the last week in April, so probably won't get to use until May,
But by then the state won't be spraying what we call liquid snot on the highways (Magnesium Cloride = deicer -YUCKIE!!!!!!!!!!!
)
But look out world, I will be styling
with all my chrome, stainless and polished aluminum, (and then I will be covered in rouge buffer fluff and aluminum polish residue
And my 10 head strobe and flasher bar, better to be seen, like to be heard but straight exhaust is out of the question, like I always have said "Loud Pipes-Save Lives"
I have driven several of these sterling and they do ride nice but they sit so darn high and the fact that the cabs are real real small not much room in them at all even the ford 650 have more room in them. Lynch truck sales in Illinois had around 7 sterling for sale and the were just about giving them away for prices that seemed to good to be true.I stayed away from sterling because the cab space and the fact that very few places in Illinois can service them so when you do buy a new truck or a sterling think about when you need to have it serviced for a major job and how far you may have to travel.Good Shopping from Planet Towing
, and I thought it looked about the same and alot classier than the "Cornfield piece o crap" I'm in now.
Already ordered and long past over due to be here.
Well I'm in the business to haul cars, not be a limo to the cars passengers, usually only let 2 in the cab anyway.
If there are more take them to a safe place and let them ride the taxi to their desination, unless the want to behave and ride in the vehicle on the deck.
And I have all the shops here locally, Sterling, Freightliner, Detroit Diesel within minutes of the office.
Here is a picture of that beautiful Sterling of JHooks's
