Does anyone prefer the Dodge chassis for their tow trucks? If so, why? And, which engine did you choose? Thanks.
:drivin:

We have a 94 cummins 4x4. It has the early style frame the broke behind the cab, a couple of freightliner frame sections took care of that though. The truck has 185,000 on it now but the engine hasnt needed anything.  The new ones have better frames and I have seen pictures of the prototype super duty. Sergeants  Towing in Portland runs and entire fleet of Dodges and loves em. Found the picture.

I never see many Dodge tow trucks on the road. I don't know about the new dodges but I know that they would have problems with the frames on the older trucks. I think if Dodge would come out with a bigger truck like the f-450 or f-550, you would see more dodge tow trucks.  :thumb:
That a good point. Since I only buy medium duty chassis', they would have nothing for me. :pimp:

BTW, cool avatar! I believe that you can go to your control panel and adjust the size to make it proportionate.

I'm spoiled. I've blown up every GM I've had, and transmisssions
and clutchs in Mopar's. Ford has been very good to me, I run them until I get tired of them and then sell them to someone else. Since I'm a one truck company right now my 78 F350 is pretty solid. Frames good, engines purrs. It does good here in the mountains. :happydance:  :laughin:

I've also had bad luck with GMs. Especially Kodiaks and the like. Break problems and electrical problems have plagued them.

We no longer have any GM products. We have a few Fords that we've had pretty good luck with. We do have problems with the ford transmissions, but we just plan for a rebuild with stroger componants.

We buy strictly International medium duty or larger currently.

I love the new 03 F-550 we got. I never had a problem with ford. I don't like GM. We have an international and we have some problems with it. I think all the trucks we get from now on will be Ford.
We also like the Fords, even though we have had tranny troubles with them, they still have a good record with us.

We are only phasing out the fords because we have found the maintenance costs of the medium duty's to be much less. I think because the heavier trucks don't work as hard doing the same job.

What kind of tranny problems were you having with the Fords? I have an 86 F350, 6.9 and manual tranny.

 bill haven't you heard that dodges piss on fords. :sofunny:  :sofunny: but serious now from what i've heard is they are more durable, but then again the super duty is suppose to be even more durable so its kinda 50/50. :brows:  :brows:
