Does anyone have any experience with the new Duramax/Allison combo in the new chevys?

I've heard good things about it, but have gotten no input from a towing application. Thanks.

P.S. I've heard that you have to carry a prybar wherever you go.... to pry the smile off your face. :hardrock:

I drove a 5500 with 20' steel Jerr-Dan from the Reno show in may to Santiam Enterprises in Oregon and loved it. The Duramax has plenty of power and the electronic auto with exhaust brake has amazing holdback power.  I believe the engine has 100,000 mile coverage and if you opt for the synthetic fluid change the tranny warranty will outlast the truck.
We got one with a nomar underlift on it and it tows like there is nothing on the back even with heavy loads.. Great power

Just to let guys know I can order C4500 with the duramax and allison in 4-wheeldrive. :thumb:
I drove a 2004 chevy 6500 flat bed with a duramax/allison tranny the nicest truck i ever drove to bad i quite the job. Boss was a jerk.. The truck drove like a dream
I`m not sure about the 1 tons, but I know the 2500s have alot of trouble with the Allison trans,In the last year I have towed 40-50 of them all with the same trouble, cooked tranny.Personally Iwouldn`t buy one or for that matter any Chevy, but hey that`s just me,Eh!
I have to agree. I've had good luck with Chevy cars, but I've had poor experience with GM in a towing application, especially with the larger Kodiak/Topkick line. :(
I moved to Tampa Fl and drove 05 GMC C5500 and it was the most awsome wrecker I have piloted yet. The power was 0 to 100 in seconds and that was double hooked. It had so much power you would have to be careful not to overrev. The handling and turn radius is unsurpassed. You can get in and out of tight spots with extereme ease. The truck handles like a luxury car. The only problem was the electrical system on GMC. Not sure about the Chevy. The Chevy is basically the same truck. We had Dura Tech beds very fast but the controls on the bed did not compare to the Jerrdan controls. I left the company they paid slave wages lest yhan minum wage after all the hours. I miss that C5500 loved the big mirrors and it just looks so cool coming down the street, It the best for the Interstate. I am getting ready to purchase one to go on my own next year :thumb:
Hey guys just a little update on our c4500's, we have a 2wd and 4wd with a duramax/allison combo and the prybar Bill talked about is true. I have driven pretty close to every kind of truck in the last 16 years and I personally think they're the best all around. We have 19,000 miles on one and 8,000 on the other with no problems. The drivability is awsome. We also just got a 5500 with 21 foot chevron alum. bed and it works so well I ordered another one, and plan on a 20'6 chevron with a SP8000. If anyone has a 4500/5500 with a allison you should get the updated program for the trans. Really helps with shifting up and down.    Derek
:thumb: Tow Guy is that a warranty program you mentioned for the tranny? Also do you know anything about Miller Patiot carrier back upfit. I found out about it at the Orlando Tow Show. This can been seen on Miller Web Site.
