ok guys i need some help. i have been asked by a guy that wants me to build him a repo truck  and given me a blank check :happydance:  or free rane. he has said it has to be a ford f-450 or 550 with 4 wheel drive and loaded.
my questions are for those guys doing repos ,what are you using for a repo unit? do you use a wrecker body or a pickup body?what do you like about it? :) what do you dislike about it? :( what equitment would you add?if you had to do it over again ,what would you do different?to everybody who responds ,thank you in advance

I'm seeing those underlifts used alot, instead of a full size f-550,or a 450,coming up on a repo job gives you away as to where the underlift it's a surprise attack, and your gone in a flash! :drivin:  :drivin:
i am looking at a 450 dual wheel 4 wheel drive.i am also looking at putting it into a 8 ft pick up body.i am looking at at maybe a dynamic or sneeker unit, but will take any suggestions for a truck.
Blank check eh?

Well you can't get anything over a 1 ton with a pickup box due to the longer wheelbase. They do make utility beds that look very similar to the factory box that will fit on the longer trucks.

He'll want the 6.8L gasser, and nothing too flashy on the body. Make it look like a construction truck. Keep the plain old steel wheels.

IMO, there's nothing wrong in using the bigger trucks for repo. You can hook up to another truck or van and have enough capacity.

DYNAMIC!!!!!! It is a must have for serious repo work. Yes the sneaker rigs look great but I say that it is easier in a wreker type set up to repo. Example. you have an ford excursion set in a drive way backed in with the nose facing the street. I know that its better visability to see to snag it and plus the dynamic bed has reinforcement for your rig a conventional bed is by far weaker. Also repo isnt just snagging cars at times. side bins for eqip. lights bars(reqired in my state for wheel lifts). Ive used all types of repo equipment  here are a few i like,
Dynamic
cheveron outlaw
vulcan intruder
                                                duck

I have to agree with the dynamic suggestion. I was just looking at one and man those repos are both nice and very functional.

I have a 04 F450 with a Vulcan intruder by far IMO the fastest truck in my fleet for pick and go.

Disadvantages i see for repos with mine the 6.0 is to loud , and again IMO i would add a stealth switch mine came with a Miller switch panel with one rocker switch not used  i made it a master light switch so i can kill all the lights on the truck if ness. My intent was to use this truck for repos has posted in another thread i need to get more info beforehand  on repos.

The 450 once i bought it went right to work doing regular towing work because we plow snow i converted it to a 4x4 last summer has to make it a multiy use vech.

Another disadvantage if your building him a 4x4 and i assume it will have a 4.88 gear is mileage . What i did to over come that was installed a Gear vendor splitter so when iam towing long distance i can maint decent mileage no need to run the high rpms with a 6.0l my personal opinion is the 4.88's were over kill for this truck.

I have a friend who repo's and the cost and insuance plus all the laws regarding a wrecker has put him off and a few others here in Tn. He instead bought a truck and a one vehicle car carrier with a pull on winch and is alot happier. He can pull up to a Chevy suburban with it. Plus he leaves the trailer and uses just the truck while seaching for the repo
I have bought a 2006 Chevy 2500HD reg cab 8ft bed with wheelift can switch between eagle claws or L arms added 1500lbs to main pack and 3500lb overloads. total cost with lights under $35,000.

IMO cars are starting to get smaller big trucks I like to get a key made so I can just drive it away

Repo best IMO A gasser,Ford or chevy; bed..Century 301 express or whatever is the new one or Vulcan  seem the better of the units.. I have used them all and like these the best...stronger than dynamic....Lifts higher than dynamic...

Just look at the units see what ones have heaver steel..
I had a Mistu cabover with a century 301 express LOVED that truck....Got whatever I went for...NEVER let me down...
