Do you prefer a certain hotel chain? If so, why?
You cannot always rely on the reputation a certain hotel chain may have to ensure your stay is going to be a pleasant one. I have had good experiences with some of the budget hotels and some bad experiences with higher end hotels. I have,, on occasion, cancelled reservations at a hotel and seeked out accomodation elsewhere because of poor conditions.
Word-of-mouth is one of the best ways to find a hotel that suits your needs and price range. Of course, the person you get the info from should have similar tastes as yours.
Some of the chains are really good about handling complaints, while others are self-owned and have only the chain name in common with others across the country.
My personal favorite for many years was Best Western, but my experiences with them outside the Pacific Northwest was less then satisfactory. In the South, I prefer the Belmont Inns or LaQuinta. Very good stays at both of them.
Yea, I agree. I've had some bad experiences at some chains that I trusted. For instance, I'll never stay at a motel6 again.
When I would drive without the wife, I used to stay in Super8 all the time because they were always clean and comfortable & had a VIP club card that had a lot of benefits including letting me reserve without cash and cashing my personal checks but that club went away Jan. 1.
I have had very good stays at Best Western & Red Lion, as well, but cannot recall ever staying at a Belmont or La Quinta, I'll have to give those a try.
I tend to stay at more affordable hotels when driving since I'm only staying one night, but when I'm staying for a longer period I'll shell out for a suite that I don't mind spending some time in. Omni, Hilton, and Crown Plaza have always treated me right.
BTW: Very cool avatar!
I've had luck with the Days Inn, always clean and friendly
