I'm with you Gale; I've done it, but I always try to avoid it.
our other drivers and i work on a rotation basis so if its my turn and it involves recovering a vehicle i do it...if done right its no problem and no damage.all it takes is the right tools and some good ole common knowledge it can be done...i have pulled a car that was on its side about 75 feet away in a creek surrounded by trees...i couldn't even see the car but i got it out with no damage to the truck...took about 2 hours and alot of walking back and forth and rehooking but i finally got it....using chains, snatch block, and various trees...pretty exciting...
I saw a device the other day that mounts between the cab and the tow-unit's cab-protector, which gives you another winch and several different sheave locations to winch from. It even has to manual stiff-legs to stabilize the truck.
This keeps you from using the bed winch and putting all that (warranty voiding) stress on that fragile bed hinge.
I'll post a picture when I find one.
http://www.wreckerbuilder.com it has optional extendable booms out the sides also.
Yea, that's it! Thank you!
Interesting device.
When paying so much more money for a rollback to do certain things why chance damage to it.
Speaking of rollbacks I haven't heard from Antman in a while, anyone know how's he doing with hios new rollback?
He must be busy, he's not been around for awile...
I work for an authorized high way towing company. no rotation list it flips it spins out or burns to a crisp we are the ones that are going to have to do it. we do most of are light duty recovery with flatbeds being we have about twice as many of them. all i ever drove was a bed and i have put some wheel lift or boom truck drivers to shame. so what im trying to say is if you dont have vision or a gut instinct then a roll over with a bed might not work. ive never had a problem doing one but i have broke my wheel lift a couple of times like trying to put a car in a container or tow a 16 passinger accesse a ride widow bus. or pull a 24 ft box truck off the next exit

Hi MRCHUNKY, welcome to ITOW Talk!
It is amazing what an experienced flatbed driver can do with that truck.
