He has a point there because here a smal local township only gives you 15 min response time so no time for a quick check there
I've always done my pre-trip in the a.m. and one in the p.m. or after a long haul tow!in between a spot inspection.

I would say i give mt trucks a good going through when we wash them and put fuel in .

That works also because while you are filling up you can do an inspection during that time.

I think that works pretty good checking while i'm at a fuel station because i hate just waiting around at the pump doing nothing

Being a licensed CDL driver myself, the common thing for me in the am, is do my CDL complete type pre-trip inspection, and also a quick inspection at the pumps with the engine running or throughout the day when I get a minute.
And if on a long trip, pull into the scale or rest area whatever, and do a good once around the unit, if not for the break and stretch and if non-smokers are in the truck, have a puff on a Swisher otherwise light up another and relax for the minutes doing the once around.
Always try and be aware, if you have a light out or whatever make a note and fix it asap. This way will keep the authorities off your butt, and keep you in good graces with them, being for some of us, they are our bread the rest are just the toppings.
One of my competition has kinda got his butt in a ringer and the Commercial Vehicle Cops kinda ride him, I try and do everything by the book and not set myself up for citations
(ie overweight/lenght with lights/flags, no running lights, speeding, dirty oily greasy equipment etc.) beside a clean shiny truck is a sign of a sick mind, AND THATS ME!!!!!!

I will keep that al in mind and i do lik eth shinny truck i just hate the time it takes to make my trucks look show room clean again

Now thats not a sick mind jhook thats the mind of cornfield cadillac driver,or exscuse me former cornfield driver.

Just like when I went to truck school and was taught how to pre-trip a 18 wheeler, but how many actually really do the correct pre-tip inspection?
As far as pretripping i do one every am one around lunch and one before i go home my log books are full of stuff goen worng and fixxed usually within 48 hours as far as late night tows we operate mostly at night and the trucks are given a once over after every unhook by our nioght gurad as he logs vehicles in.. btw i love a shiny tow tuck
