Pulled a '03 VW Bug with a Jerr Dan wheel lift. I had it loaded with the front (front-wheel drive) on the lift. I had a all-wheel drive on the deck. Somewhere along the way I hit a bump or pothole and the bug bounced down onto the cross bar. when I got to my destination I saw oil dripping from the splash shield under the motor, the result of a cracked oil pan. As I was delivering the bug to its owner, after it was repaired in our body shop this was not good.
The boss had me take it to the dealer for repair. That was yesterday morning.
This morning they called and told us that there are NO REPLACEMENT PANS IN THE USA. The pans are back ordered and will not be available until MID SEPTEMBER! You can imagine the conversation in the office concerning that news. That is what I learned at 10 this morning.
At 4:45 this afternoon I got some good news.
We have a great used part connection who has found a replacement pan. It will cost more than a new pan from the dealer. It will be at the dealership on Monday.
The moral of this story is; DO NOT PUT A BUG ON A LIFT UNLESS YOU PULL IT BACKWARDS!
