Hello,
I'm trying to get some info about how to go about starting up a small towing business. I plan to start out with one roll back which i already own. I been trying to find the Kentucky laws on this subject, but been unlucky on that. I wonted to know if any one knows the Kentucky towing laws, and license needed.
Also tips on starting up a tow business in Kentucky, as its a new place to me. Thats really the only questions i have right now, but feel free to add anything relative you feel will help.
Thanks for any help.
Thanks anyways..
Hey Thatguy, welcome to ITOW Talk!
Hey wait a minute.... no one leaves here without being helped! I know we have members from Kentucky who will help you out when they see your post.
I've looked through the KRS (Kentucky Revised Statutes) and see many laws about operations but nothing about licencing.
I did visit Kentucky's Official Government Site and found a site dedicated to business licencing. However, on the page to find out if a special licence is needed, towing is not listed. I don't know if that's good or bad. It did however give me a number to ask that question, (800) 626-2250.
My final tip on starting a towing business is...... sell all the trucks and start a chain of espresso shacks, where scantily clad girls sell $6 cups of coffee. The lower stress will surely extend your life.
Good luck!
Ya the Kentucky sites or really no help what so ever. That and half the links don't work.
Any how what i found out.
I need a Kentucky business license, tow license, and have my rig inspected by state for tow list. Thats about all the info i have got, and hate to start on that alone, and then get fined down the road.
Just pick up a 3rd wrecker (wreaked) easy cab repair. Then I'm currently building the tow building on my lot. So thanks for the help, and I'll see what i can come up with here. Seems the local small tow truck owner or not welling to help with the info. They seem kind of hostile to a large business moving in. Even though state police is the only runs the seem to do, and they work out of a small area. I plan to run a large area. Also running road side service with one of my utility trucks for flats, gas or any problems not needing a tow.
We will see how it goes.
