Hey Guys, Really like the board, very informative. I have a few questions.

1. What license requirements will I need to start a tow busines in illinois?

a. city/county business license?
b. Tow operators license?
c. ?

2. Whats the most popular economical carrier going?

I am a career Firefighter in the city I live in and have been contemplating a start in the business for a few years now. Recently a tow business in town started doing long haul transports and has quit leaving only one tow business in town. This gentleman is running his azz off and cant keep up. I as well as my family have a very good name in the county and believe I could be successful. I work on a daily basis with all the first responders and have been assured a big part of their business. I would like a crash course in what I need to get started. I really am not this dumb and I have a good idea what I am doing but I would like some other opinions from those who have thought about the "if I had it to do over again". What would you have done different besides not getting into it. lol

I don't know much about Illinois, but the most economical carrier IMO is a Jerr-Dan on a Ford chassis.

Anyone else??

I would just add that you need to KNOW your operating expenses and stay far away from motor clubs. If you havent run tow trucks before then you need some sort of training. Be nice, be fair. It's a great job that gives you the opprotunity to makes someones day everyday. Good luck
